PENSACOLA, FL—Two Florida Small Business Development Center Network clients were recognized with the Governor’s Business Diversification Award at the Governor’s mansion on September 18, 2007. GENICON, a producer of patented laparoscopic surgery equipment, received the Export Excellence Award for the Mega Market category; and One Senior Place, a one-stop senior care facility, received the Newcomer Award for the Major Market Category.
The awards honor Florida businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to creating jobs for Floridians, increasing capital investment and promoting corporate citizenship. Each nominee competed with other companies, organizations, universities and colleges from similarly sized markets.
“It is rewarding to see our clients recognized for the contributions they bring to our state. These innovative companies exemplify the caliber of small businesses in Florida.” said Jerry Cartwright, State Director of the Florida Small Business Development Center Network.
GENICON became a client of the SBDC at the University of Central Florida in Orlando in April 2000 and has since received a wide variety of services such as in-depth financial analyses, website content critiques, marketing strategy development and help in locating funding sources.
“GENICON’s prominence within the international medical markets can easily be traced back to the support received from the SBDC at our infancy and is recognizable through the continued sustainable growth we enjoy today,” said GENICON’s President and CEO Gary Haberland. |
Likewise, One Senior Place has benefitted from being a client of the SBDC at Brevard Community College in Melbourne. One Senior Place’s owner and founder, Don Kramer, has utilized SBDC services since 1997 when he was developing another business he owns, Senior Partner Care Services. Kramer has credited much of what he knows about running both of his businesses to information he has obtained through the SBDC.
“The services the FSBDCN provides across the state are valuable tools in helping business owners and entrepreneurs realize their full potential. Running a small business can be a challenge, and it is helpful to have a team of experts like the FSBDCN supporting you as issues surface,” said Cartwright. |
The Florida SBDC Network is a statewide partnership between higher education and economic development organizations dedicated to providing emerging and established business owners with assistance enabling overall growth and increased profitability that contributes to the economic prosperity of the state.
